Rindge Commons

Cambridge, MA

Rindge Commons will provide expanded and improved housing options and supportive programming in this inviting pedestrian-scaled community. A short walk to Alewife Station, 101 new family sized apartments in two new buildings will buffer the visual massing of the singular existing tower, stepping down in scale to the adjacent residential neighborhood. Workforce Training and YouthBuild programming will be located on the ground floor of the buildings, along with City of Cambridge Pre-K classrooms.

Sustainable and resilient features are integrated across the buildings and site. With an early and intentional commitment to Passive House design, Phase 1 is projected to be certified under the PHIUS program for both the residential and commercial components. Cooling strategies include increased tree coverage on site; white high-albedo roofs; low intensity green roofs, and newly developed open space for residents to enjoy.
