ICON’s Putnam Green is LEED for Homes Platinum
ICON’s Putnam Green in Cambridge, MA has achieved LEED for Homes Platinum certification!
These 40 apartments surround a sunny, landscaped courtyard to maximize passive solar design. The 34-unit midrise incorporates a super-insulated building envelope, 96% efficient mechanical systems, and heat recovery ventilation; both photovoltaic and solar thermal panels fill the roof to reduce building energy use. A separate six-family structure is built with SIPS (structural insulated panel system) to achieve an R-30 envelope with individual unit energy recovery. Although designed to save energy, the buildings are warm and inviting, featuring a curving entry porch and bays playfully engaging the more traditional neighboring residences. Units feature wood floors, wood cabinets, and broad windows overlooking the street and courtyard beyond.
