Centre 50, Enso Flats & Enterprise Building BROCKTON, MA
Centre and Main has transformed a multi-acre city block in the heart of Brockton into a mixed-use, TOD complex with 224 new apartments, 52,000 square feet of retail/commercial space, and a 415-space Municipal Garage, all designed by ICON. Within steps of downtown’s commuter rail station, this decade-long, three phase project has brought new life to downtown with a host of new residents and office workers.
Three apartment buildings provide 224 new homes — Centre 50 (71 units) and Enso Flats (42 units) anchor the southeast corner of the site. Their contemporary designs interpret downtown’s historic mill architecture, and bring a lively mix of live/work lofts with more traditional apartments, showcasing a street level Artist Gallery to intrigue passersby. Empresa (111 units) completes the courtyard with a twist, providing multi-level landscaping and a series of outdoor gathering areas. Fitness and Amenity areas in all three buildings look out to the central courtyard, offering residents a beautiful oasis in the city.
Adaptive reuse of the c.1890 Enterprise Building, beloved by the community as the former Enterprise Newspaper headquarters, removed portions of a 1970’s modern concrete addition to reveal the original historic facades. New windows, building systems and façade restoration allowed new use for State government offices and retail/restaurant space on the ground floor. The Korean-Vietnam Memorial Park, also completed as part of the overall site plan, offers a landscaped corner focused on downtown.
