A Place to Live Worcester, MA
Working with Worcester Housing Authority and their non-profit affiliate, Building Futures Inc [BFI], ICON Architecture designed “A Place to Live.” This project provides permanent, supportive housing for people who have been chronically homeless. The first of its kind in the state, the project is a 13,340 SF three-story building nestled into a quaint downtown neighborhood that includes 24 fully furnished micro-units and 1 live in residential manager. Each studio unit is equipped with its own kitchen and bathroom.
A Place to Live marks the City’s new direction in the fight against homelessness, residents are offered much more than shelter, but wraparound services focused on individual residents’ needs. The project was championed by former City Manager Ed Augustus- who now serves as the MA secretary of Housing and Livable Communities.
