Downtown Brockton Higher Education Campus Study BROCKTON, MA
The new campus will be the first of its kind in Massachusetts: an urban campus shared by three institutions. Massasoit Community College, the University of Massachusetts Boston, and Bridgewater State University are bringing their strengths together to create a downtown Brockton-centered learning community, providing support and a seamless pathway to student success using effective and innovative learning technologies and pedagogies. Working with senior administrators and faculty from the three institutions, DCAMM, the Mayor and Chief of Staff of the City of Brockton, and Mass Development, ICON developed the program and concept design for this adaptive reuse project in the heart of downtown Brockton, a designated Gateway City. The proposed design concept is a complete renovation of the existing three-story retail/office building that provides students from the three institutions access to 33,338 GSF of technology-rich, collaborative learning space designed to connect them to each other, to resources on site and in the community, and to the participating institutions.
