Boston East Groundbreaking
On Thursday, May 19, ICON Architecture, Governor Baker, Mayor Walsh, Trinity Financial, and the East Boston Community Development Corporation celebrated the groundbreaking of Boston East. Located near Maverick Square, this new seven-story building will be split into two wings that reflect a traditional East Boston waterfront massing that reaches out and steps down in height and materials to the water. At regular intervals along each of the “fingers,” lightweight balconies are detailed to emulate a ship’s masts reflecting the site’s maritime history. Along the axis with Decatur Street, artist live/work/sell studios will spill out, enlivening the public walkway. The community gallery and patio will be open and accessible along the waterfront side of the building. A new section of the East Boston Harborwalk will be furnished with lighting, benches, historic information, and a public kayak dock.
