New port construction, explosive tourism growth, and industrial expansion combine to create strong demand for workforce housing in Aqaba. ICON prepared master plans, now in process of implementation, for two new housing villages to accommodate an ultimate combined population of over 50,000 persons, defining program requirements for several types of housing, community facilities, and shops. Each village is oriented to a central core of services that will provide a "good address" and image for the community and enable a logical growth pattern. The work included an assessment of housing needs and design of housing prototypes.
